21 Fresh Preppy Fall Looks

fall looks2

You won’t find any puffy herringbone vests, monogrammed scarves and/or statement necklaces here. Instead, I’m thinking preppy as in classic, uniform-inspired looks, but with a twist – add way too many pearls, some fur/leopard, contrasting plaids and a surprising pop of color. Things like that!

Here are 21 outfits that can show you what I mean. Mostly pulled from Atlantic-Pacific, one of my favorite style blogs, but with touches of others.

Do you hate me for being sick of the puffy vest and monogram? I’m sorry. I get a little gutsy when I can hide behind the blog and don’t have to tell you to your face. 🙂

Have you seen any cute preppy fall looks that should be added to this list?

Happy Fashion Week & A New Column

In honor of New York Fashion Week, I’m hereby debuting a new fashion column on this blog – Tina Couture. It will document Tina, the lovely receptionist at my day job, who just dazzles me with the ensembles she puts together.

On Friday, for instance, she wore this:

Tina - 2.7.14

When she first wore the pewter booties to the office, I actually ran-not-walked to DSW  and purchased my own pair. They go with everything and I highly recommend a pewter shoe for anyone’s wardrobe.

The above photo doesn’t quite capture the awe-inspiring creation that is this outfit, so I’ll break it down for you so you can steal this look:

Tina for TorieandTristan

I found this scarf on Etsy – Tina’s was a marled olive scarf with a few shades of green in it, but I couldn’t find a marled one that I liked.

I love love love these earrings. Hammered metal is classic, and this particular brand makes hollow versions of chunky styles so they don’t weigh down your lil earlobes.

I have a feeling that the denim shirt will turn into a classic wardrobe staple; at least for the next several years. This bargain version is from Old Navy; I personally love ones from Madewell, American Apparel and J. Crew.

The belt is from Target and I think Target does a fabulous job making cheap belts look exactly like the $50+ versions at places like Banana Republic and J. Crew.

The pants are from H&M and are no longer available, but I found similar ones here. Image from here.

I’ve showed the shoes in gold for the sake of being matchy-matchy; the pewter ones looked silver on the website but are far more neutral in real life: Zappos

SO! I hope you’ll all join me on the Tina bandwagon and stay tuned for her next killer look.

Furry Friends for Fall 2013

Tristan is not a friend of fur. I on the other hand, may just be the Leopard Queen of the Northwest. I have loved fur and leopard print since an early age. While I have not yet convinced my husband to let me install leopard-print carpet on the stairs, I have managed small wins such as furry pillows on the bed. Ironically, I inherited these from a colleague who was forced to get rid of them because his spouse hated them.

An easy way to incorporate fur and leopard into one’s life, especially when you live with someone whose tastes aren’t as fuzzy, is through fashion. Leopard really is the new neutral. I have seasonal scarves to demonstrate:

Naturally, I always have a few furry faves on my wishlist. Here are my current picks for fall 2013:

Ivanka Trump Galyn Pony –  on SALE! $134.99 from Zappos:

Kind of Valentino-esque with the studs, no?

Or Collection Viv calf hair flats from J. Crew Pre-Fall ($298):

Bonus points for the hot pink accents! It’s amazing how non-Jersey Shore this combo comes off.

Of course, I could go on and on. For more inspiration, my Outfit Du Jour Pinterest board is chalk full of ideas, or for the most awe-inspiring fur-filled blog post I have ever seen, click here.
